Apocalypse Gachapon Chapter 1942: Don't go
Previously on Apocalypse Gachapon...
Once Ye Zhongming departed from Jikesu's location, he devoted himself entirely to preparing the Bronze Assault Camp through rigorous training.
He had personally established the evaluation system for the camp, so he absolutely refused to let its performance turn out disastrously poor during the assessments.
In the meantime, a significant incident took place: the Slave Race didn't merely pass through but launched an assault on the Novice planet, reclaiming it as their territory once more.
All the cosmic races recognized that this planet served merely as a minor morsel for the Slave Race. After satisfying its hunger, it would swiftly depart in search of another victim.
Confronting this never-before-seen crisis, the leading groups among the cosmic races were diligently investigating if this event represented merely an anomaly amid the nutrient wave. If so, they could handle it routinely or overlook it entirely. Yet if it proved otherwise, they would have to monitor it with utmost vigilance.
The arrival of that Slave Race forced seven survivor fortresses to relocate, shifting their positions to prevent any mishaps.
Each relocation of these survivor fortresses demanded a vast quantity of Moonspan Gold. In an instant, every cosmic race faced enormous expenditures.
The Star-Eye Clan was inevitably affected too. They never anticipated that the prizes for securing the historic top spot in the Novice battlefield would be substantially reduced due to this relocation.
Ye Zhongming merely noted it briefly before setting it aside.
For the initial small-scale evaluation, set with a three-day limit, the challenges Ye Zhongming designed were straightforward, focusing on fundamental skills. No fighting tests were included; only the furelai examination stood out as somewhat significant.
Other Star-Eye Clan members viewed this as Ye Zhongming's preliminary check on the group.
Indeed, Ye Zhongming aimed to gauge the true state of the Bronze Camp through this evaluation.
The outcomes... well, they left him struggling to form a clear judgment.
The overall fighting strength averaged low; this remained the most glaring flaw the Bronze Camp couldn't escape. On the positive side, the elite fighters within the Bronze Camp performed adequately. In other words, the key personnel possessed respectable furelai levels. A handful were nearing the ten-thousand threshold. Over fifty percent exceeded eight thousand. Those holding Hundred-Person Commander ranks or higher generally surpassed five thousand in furelai.
All in all, the divide between strong and weak was stark.
One aspect that brought Ye Zhongming some satisfaction: the combined furelai among the sixty-five Assault Camp members proved respectable, well above the standard average.
During this evaluation, certain standout individuals caught Ye Zhongming's eye. Take the First Thousand-Person Commander, Zhong Hongke—he boasted the highest furelai in the whole Bronze Camp, missing ten thousand by a mere three points. Likely, a bit more training would push him past that barrier.
Consider also a Hundred-Person Commander called Ou Chong, whose furelai topped eight thousand, outshining many Thousand-Person Commanders. Rumors suggested his personality flaws and skill shortcomings kept him from higher roles.
Naturally, Wu Qian, the Logistics chief officer, deserved mention too—her battle prowess was quite impressive, surpassing nine thousand and placing seventh across the entire Bronze Camp.
Ye Zhongming resolved to converse with the Logistics Officer.
Wu Qian displayed no astonishment at Ye Zhongming's arrival. She calmly outlined her duties, then displayed assorted data charts on the screen for the Bronze Order Leader's review.
Ye Zhongming skimmed them quickly and set them aside. These details held no appeal for him, and he was confident Wu Qian managed her responsibilities flawlessly.
For one, he had already checked; she enjoyed a solid reputation both in the clan and the Bronze Camp. For another, with the Star-Eye Clan pinching every resource tightly these days, anyone attempting deceit would court disaster.
"I'd like to inquire: for gear and other supplies supporting the three main camps, beyond what's provided by the clan, might we secure some on our own?"
Wu Qian eyed Ye Zhongming, sensing his intentions.
"You aren't planning to outfit the team personally, are you?" Wu Qian ventured. Without pausing for a reply, she pressed on: "While no regulations forbid it, but... managing a force of almost ten thousand is no small feat. Individual resources fall short; it's wiser to avoid it. Handing out a few pieces sparks cries of favoritism; scaling up becomes impossible to fund."
Ye Zhongming remained silent, offering no confirmation or rejection.
Back on Earth, in the early days and growth phase following Cloud Peak Manor's founding, he had single-handedly sustained the group. Who claimed one person couldn't back a whole team?
"Are the supplied materials set in stone, or do they vary based on certain factors?"
Ye Zhongming still grasped these foundational procedures poorly; he needed to clarify them.
"The clan follows a dedicated framework of evaluations and rules, determined by factors such as troop numbers, assignments, achievements, and more. Currently, adjustments happen roughly every thirty days."
Wu Qian withheld a few details.
Why such frequent tweaks from the clan? The shifts weren't major anyway. Wasn't it simply because the clan was desperately strapped for funds, cutting costs at every turn?
"Show me the storage facility."
Ye Zhongming instructed Wu Qian to guide him to the Bronze Camp's warehouse. He toured the interior, and Wu Qian plainly observed the discontent etched on this fresh Order Leader's features.
"Do we possess any... personal avenues?" Ye Zhongming questioned after discarding a suit of armor.
Wu Qian noted the armor; it lay bundled with nearby gear, bound to suffer damage.
"We're prohibited from running businesses; that's clan policy."
Ye Zhongming smirked inwardly. Evidently, this individual still harbored doubts about him. He had secured from the two Clan Leaders the liberty for the Bronze Camp to select missions, but he hadn't sought unrestricted commercial rights. Such permission would have opened a Pandora's box of complications.
Still, he doubted the three primary camps stuck strictly to the rules without sourcing extras through back channels. Likewise, he intended to execute his scheme via a workaround.
"You can go now. Meet me tomorrow."
"Ah?" Wu Qian, typically serene as a pond, reacted with surprise. "You intend... to remain in the warehouse?"
"Correct. And fetch me an evening meal."
With that, Ye Zhongming ushered Wu Qian away and lingered solo in the warehouse, inspecting every corner.
Wu Qian couldn't ignore the directive. She arranged for a meal delivery and brought it herself, only to be ejected once more by Ye Zhongming.
The warehouse counted as a vital zone. Despite Ye Zhongming's status as Bronze Order Leader, he couldn't flout protocols. But for Wu Qian to challenge him? Frankly, she lacked the nerve. This newcomer had slain on sight without fallout, backed by the clan. He could do the same to her, so she refrained from protest.
As a result, numerous observers spotted Wu Qian pacing repeatedly outside the Bronze Camp's warehouse throughout the night.
Come morning, the somewhat weary Wu Qian at last caught the warehouse door creaking open. She snapped to full attention. As she neared to speak, the new Bronze Order Leader gestured dismissively and uttered words that left Wu Qian utterly perplexed.
"Go sort it out."
Sort what? Wu Qian puzzled. She stepped inside to investigate. But ignorance was bliss; upon seeing the sight, this poised Logistics Leader froze for an extended beat before erupting in a sharp cry!
"Don't you leave!"
